Should You Lose Weight Before A Neck Lift?

By December 29, 2021 No Comments

Weight changes are often a catalyst for plastic surgery. Losing weight can leave behind extra skin while weight gain can distribute unevenly on the body. While it may seem like this is more likely to affect the body, it can also affect the face and neck. Therefore, patients who are in the process of, or want to lose weight, often ask, “Should you lose weight before a neck lift?”

It depends on the amount of weight you want to lose. If you want to lose more than ten to thirty pounds, then it is likely best to wait before a neck lift. However, if you plan to lose around ten or twenty pounds, it is likely safe to undergo a neck lift without the worry of more extra skin appearing with weight loss.

Sometimes if you are older, then weight loss may not be easy or your skin may not be as elastic. In these cases, Dr. Santos can evaluate your situation, skin quality, and other factors to determine if weight loss is the best option and whether or not to go about it before or after neck lift surgery.
