What is Eyelid Surgery for?

When the years of aging begin to show in the form of lines, wrinkles, and sagging skin, our eyes can be one of the hardest areas affected. Eyelid drooping and puffiness below the eyes are common signs of aging that not only leave you looking older. But possibly even constantly sad or tired. Because of this, people are often self-conscious about their appearance and may notice different treatment by others who mistook you as drowsy or upset. Eyelid surgery can help.

Also known as blepharoplasty, it is a cosmetic surgery procedure designed to remove the excess skin to revive a youthful appearance in your eyes. Our board certified plastic and cosmetic surgeons can help alleviate your problems with sagging eyelids and puffy bags utilizing special techniques learned through decades of combined experience.

Is Eyelid Surgery Right for Me?

When you come in for your blepharoplasty consultation, we will analyze your condition to determine whether you need both upper and lower eyelid surgery or just one.

Upper eyelid blepharoplasty is typically used for the treatment of a drooping upper eyelid. Whether it is the result of aging or a congenital disorder such as Ptosis. It can also help clear any vision obstruction drooping of the upper eyelid can cause. Lower eyelid blepharoplasty is more used to address discoloration or heavy bags that may have formed beneath your eyes over time.

Combining both upper and lower eyelid surgery will likely achieve the best overall results. You may choose to supplement your eyelid surgery with other facial procedures such as a facelift or brow lift to address other signs of aging.

What is the Procedure Like?

When you come in for your eyelid surgery, we will make sure that you know what to expect and that you are at ease before beginning. We will place you under general anesthesia during your procedure.

With upper eyelid surgery, we make a discreet incision along the natural creases above your lid. Our surgeons remove excess skin and tissue to reduce sagging or drooping of the eyelid. Lower eyelid surgery may consist of excision of excess skin. As well as the removal of small pockets of fat that accumulate with age.

Once your eyelid surgery is complete, you may experience some minor discomfort or headaches. These should fade fairly quickly and managed with medication. While initially some bruising and swelling and your incision lines visible, your eyes will improve over the next few weeks. In the meantime, you can use makeup to cover up most issues within a few days after surgery.

Before you know it, you will look in the mirror at a reflection that looks like a younger version of yourself. Many of our patients experience an overall improvement to their lifestyle and self-confidence following eyelid surgery procedure with us.
