SCULPTRA IN SEATTLE AND TACOMA
Fine lines and wrinkles are a common concern as we age. However, for some people, their facial concerns extend beyond wrinkles. Some patients experience facial hollowing where they lose fat in the face that can leave them looking gaunt and older than they are. Fillers are a common solution to this problem because they can provide natural volume to the hollowed areas. Sculptra is one filler option. Because it has many advantages over traditional hyaluronic acid fillers many patients prefer Sculptra to other facial fillers. The providers at Seattle Plastic Surgery offer Sculptra injections to the Seattle and Tacoma areas.
WHAT IS SCULPTRA?
Sculptra is a type of facial filler containing poly-L-lactic acid, a synthetic form of lactic acid. Your body produces lactic acid naturally, making Seattle Sculptra a safe filler with a low rejection rate. This filler is typically used for deep wrinkles and facial hollowing versus fine lines and more superficial wrinkles. What sets Sculptra apart from other dermal fillers is that it works slowly over time and stimulates the body to make more collagen.
Collagen breaks down as we age and production slows. This protein keeps your skin supple and bouncy. When you receive Sculptra in Seattle, the acid calls upon your body to fill in these wrinkles with collagen which will improve the overall look of your skin.
Where Can You Use It?
Sculptra is not used an under eye or lip filler, although it can be combined with other dermal fillers to fill in these areas as well. Your provider can help you decide what Sculptra and filler protocol will best help you accomplish your goals.
Otherwise, Sculptra is commonly used most other places on the face. Sculptra is also used during non-surgical Brazilian Butt Lift procedures and help provide a natural lift and plump to the buttocks. Our surgeons often utilize Sculptra for both of these purposes and are experienced at injecting the filler to increase collagen production and provide natural plump.
Sculptra vs. Hyaluronic Acid Fillers

The two types of fillers contain many similarities as well. The injection techniques, appointment time, side effects, and recovery are roughly the same. Many fillers contain lidocaine in their formulas which leads to a more comfortable and easier injection.
Ultimately, the treatment best for you will vary depending on your goals and what you want to achieve. Your provider can help you decide whether Sculptra or hyaluronic acid fillers are best. Sometimes a combination of Sculptra and hyaluronic acid fillers can provide optimal results.
How Long Does It Last?
Once you finish with your first round of injections, your results will last about two years. If your body responds well to Sculptra in Tacoma, you may see some permanent improvement in the look of your wrinkles or facial hollows. While you will eventually need touch up treatments, Sculptra lasts much longer than other dermal fillers and taking advantage of your body’s ability to create collagen, it can provide better looking results over time.
SCULPTRA BEFORE AND AFTER
Before And During
When you come in for a Tacoma Sculptra consultation, your provider–either Dr. Craig Jonov or a nurse injector–will decide if you are a good candidate for Sculptra injections. First, your provider will lead a conversation about your reasons and your goals for your Sculptra treatments. Secondly, they will inquire about your medical history and the medications you currently take. This helps them understand your overall health. Finally, your provider will examine the areas and determine if your goals could be achieved with Sculptra in Tacoma.
If your provider believes you are a good candidate for Sculptra, you can typically receive your first injections during the same appointment. Sculptra injections are typically administered over a period of a few weeks to months to allow for collagen to build between injections.
Before your injections, your provider will use a topical anesthetic to numb the treatment area and minimize discomfort. Most patients do not find Sculptra treatment overly painful. As mentioned above, the formula contains lidocaine to help soothe the injections as injected.
Your provider will inject small amounts of the filler at specifically chosen points on the using customized techniques to help provide even and flattering results. The entire process should not take more than 15 or 20 minutes to complete.
After
Once the injections are finished, you can return to your daily life and work immediately. Often, our providers recommend refraining from vigorous exercise for 1-2 days after your treatment to ensure safe and successful results.
Otherwise, there is no specified recovery period associated with Sculptra. You may experience some mild side effects like redness, tenderness, bruising, or swelling. Usually, these side effects subside within a few days and do not require any medications to resolve. Based on your medical history and needs, your provider will alert you of any recovery protocol personalized to you. Your provider will likely tell you to avoid the use of NSAID’s, otherwise known as certain over-the-counter pain medications like Ibuprofen, Aspirin, and Advil. For most people, Tylenol is a safe alternative to take if needed.

SEATTLE SCULPTRA CANDIDATES
Most patients with deep wrinkles or facial hollows are a good candidate for Seattle Sculptra. However, because Sculptra is a medical treatment, not everyone is a suitable candidate. Some medical conditions and situations can make Sculptra injections unsafe, complicate results, or make side effects worse. Talking to your provider about your full medical history, including medications you currently take, will allow them to decide whether Sculptra in Seattle can help you. A few conditions or situations that mean Sculptra is not right for you can include:
- Cancer
- Auto-immune disorders
- Blood or bleeding disorders
- Pregnancy or breastfeeding (safe after pregnancy/ nursing finished)
- Allergy to ingredients in the product
- Under 18
- Unrealistic expectations
- Current breakouts or injuries in the area (treatment can usually occur once clear/ healed)
Some of these conditions may not immediately disqualify you from Sculptra injections in Seattle because your provider may be able to take certain precautions or other measures so that Sculptra is accessible to you. Discussing your concerns and health with your provider will help them decide if you are a possible candidate.
How Much Is Sculptra?

Our costs include the cost of Sculptra, the procedure, anesthetic, and all the other materials and fees associated with one vial of Sculptra. While Sculptra costs more than other dermal fillers, it provides significantly longer-lasting results.
At Seattle Plastic Surgery, we work with various financing companies to help make your Sculptra injections in Seattle and Tacoma affordable. You can find out more about the companies we work with and links to apply on our Financing page.
YOUR RESULTS
Unlike other dermal fillers like Juvederm and Restylane, your results may not be immediately visible. You may notice some subtle results at first. Sculptra is not known for providing dramatic results right away and takes time for the product to stimulate collagen production. Your results will come gradually over the next few weeks and months. For many patients, these slower results are preferable because it makes the process look more natural over time. Sculptra consistently provides results and often with fewer injections needed than other fillers.
